Henry LeTang Fund

The Need

The modern conception of tap dancing, and more specifically American rhythm tap dance, is that it is primarily a solo improvisational art form. Such a conception that rates quality of performance on individual character, freedom of expression, and other such characteristics inherently limits potential admiration and respect for the great body of work of tap dance choreography found in the worlds of theater and concert dance.

The Solution

With Dr. LeTang’s legacy as a guiding light, the Henry LeTang Fund will provide a platform for pre-professional choreographers to showcase their work and commission new works by recognized choreographers in the field, continuing the promotion of tap dance as a choreographic form.

About Dr. LeTang and the Henry LeTang Fund

Dr. Henry LeTang was unique in his generation. In the midst of a multitude of soloists and improvisers, Dr. LeTang was a creator of choreography. On film, television, and on the stage, Dr. LeTang’s work staging acts, chorus lines, and entire shows left a strong legacy and contributed to the greater body of work of tap dance as a choreographic form.

With the support of the LeTang family, the foundation established the Henry LeTang Fund to ensure the continued promotion of Dr. LeTang’s work as a choreographer, the promotion of tap dance choreography, and the understanding of tap dance as a choreographic form.
