Jimmy Slyde Scholarships

The Need

Everyone needs a nudge in the right direction sometimes. Dr. Jimmy Slyde was known for providing that nudge to many a young dancer. While never considering himself a “teacher,” Slyde indeed provided an immense amount of potent guidance to the younger generations. Dr. Jimmy Slyde passed away on May 16, 2008, and with him went “the nudge.”

The Solution

Establish a scholarship program that provides a small nudge in the right direction. Model the competitive criteria and award content after Jimmy Slyde’s ideas of commitment and preferences with regards to the development of a tap dancer.

Scholarships for Finger Lakes Tap Dance Festival in 2008, were awarded in Dr. Jimmy Slyde’s honor, and with his permission, and so gave birth to the Jimmy Slyde Scholarships.
